Grant and Helberg are revelations in 'Florence Foster Jenkins'

... and starring Meryl Streep as William Hung! Yes, our lady of acting perfection portrays a singer of extreme (but comically confident) tone-deafness. It's a strange-but-true tale of a wealthy woman in the 1940s whose circle enabled her in her misguided belief that she sang well. In the movie, her husband bribes critics and vocal coaches. She finally goes public and is faced with an audience hooting and laughing at her. In this slight film, Streep is excellent (duh), but Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg are the real revelations. Grant gives a wonderfully nuanced performance as her husband, and Helberg proves to be a master at subtly expressing how stupefied his pianist character is at Perkins' caterwauling.
