AND SO IT GOES
At times, this movie wants to be a Nancy Meyers rom-com (complete with lovingly filmed real estate). At others, it veers toward Lifetime melodrama (the main character's grown son is a reformed addict! who's going to jail! and has a young daughter who needs care while he's in the slammer!). While the script is wanting, "And So It Goes" gets lucky with its stars: Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton. The duo possess a beguiling chemistry, and they finesse the opposites-attract set-up; he's a grumpy old man, she's a sensitive singer. I'd love to see Douglas and Keaton reunite on a romantic comedy with a stronger script. They deserve the best.
