    Fire destroys Old Saybrook home

A two-alarm fire Thursday night destroyed an unoccupied home on Otter Cove Drive, fire officials said.

Old Saybrook — A two-alarm fire Thursday night destroyed an unoccupied home on Otter Cove Drive, a fire official said.

The Old Saybrook Fire Department responded to the fire at 17 Otter Cove Drive about 9:40 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the scene, a portion of the home was fully ablaze and collapsing. The home was unoccupied as it was under renovation, John Dunn, past fire chief and spokesman, said.

Dunn said there are no fire hydrants in the Otter Cove Drive area so tankers from Guilford, Madison, Deep River, Lyme, Old Lyme, Westbrook, Essex, Deep River and Chester were called in to shuttle water.

The fire was under control by 10:50 p.m.

The Essex Fire Department responded with an engine and ladder truck and the Clinton Fire Department responded with a Rapid Intervention Team.

The New London canteen as well as paramedics from Old Saybrook and Middlesex Hospital were also at the scene.

    No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Land records show that James and Raffaella Gill own the home.
