Hartford sues to end group arrangement in city home

Hartford — The city of Hartford is suing a group of homeowners, demanding an end to a living arrangement among eight adults and three children.

The Hartford Courant reports that officials say the residents in the city's wealthiest neighborhood are violating zoning laws limiting the number of unrelated residents to two people for single-family homes.

The lawsuit names Laura Rozza and Simon DeSantis, two residents listed as the property owners. They live in the nine-bedroom brick home with six other adults and three children in a group that considers itself a family sharing expenses, chores and ownership of the house.

Hartford's zoning regulations define members of a family as those related by blood, marriage, civil union or legal adoption.

Peter Goselin, a lawyer who represents the residents, said that the city's move is "very distressing."
