2 Old Lyme police officers injured during weekend arrest

Old Lyme — A Torrington man was arrested early Sunday after state police said he attacked two Old Lyme police officers who were attempting to arrest him.

Eric Jacquemin, 19, was charged with three counts of assault on a police officer, interfering with police, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and possession of marijuana.

Sgt. Shane Hassett, state police spokesman, said Tuesday police were investigating an accident on Route 156 in the area of Riverdale Lodge. While police attempted to arrest Jacquemin, he began to spit at and kick the officers, he said.

Hassett said he injured two officers, who were treated and released from the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. The two unidentified officers have not returned to work. It was not clear  what the nature of the injuries were, but Hassett said they were "moderate." The incident happened about 1:45 a.m.

Police said they also took Jacquemin to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and then taken to Troop F in Westbrook, where he was processed.

Jacquemin was arraigned Monday in Superior Court in New London and is being held on a $50,000 bond. His next court date is June 16.
