Dog killed, driver injured in Plainfield crash

Plainfield – A woman was injured and her dog was killed in a one-car crash at 7:46 p.m. Saturday on Norwich Road near the Roode Road intersection, Plainfield police said.

Police said the vehicle appeared to have been traveling southbound on Norwich Road-Route 12 when driver Misty Hart veered off the side of the roadway striking a mailbox. The vehicle continued down a slight embankment and came to stop after striking a large tree.

Hart, 31, of 14 Colbridge Road, was assisted out of her Grey 2010 Hyundai Santé Fe by a good Samaritan who was on his way to a friend’s house, police said. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and the dog inside died, police said.

Members of the Plainfield Police Department, Plainfield Fire Department and American Legion Ambulance responded.

Hart was carried up the embankment by members of the Plainfield Fire Department and transported to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for possible injuries.

Plainfield police spoke to witnesses who said Hart had passed them at very high speed and was swerving. The witnesses did not see the accident occur.

The vehicle was removed by Bellavance Trucking out of Moosup.

The case is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Plainfield police at (860) 564-0804.
