Westerly — Two people were flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital Friday following a crash on Route 78.

The crash was first reported as a rollover with the ejection of both occupants at 8:36 p.m. on Route 78, about one mile away from Route 1, emergency officials said.

Westerly Ambulance, who treated patients at the scene, called in two medical helicopters, which landed at a football field off Old Hopkinton Road. 

Further details are not immediately available, and the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Westerly police.
