Norwich police plan for fireworks on Thursday

Norwich — Police are reminding residents and visitors to exercise safety when driving or walking around in the city during Thursday’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration.

Public parking will be available at the Intermodal Transportation Center on West Main Street, the Market Street and Main Street parking garages and the Viaduct parking lot.

Police said they plan to monitor all parking and traffic regulations in and around the harbor and downtown areas. Additional officers will be added to facilitate traffic flow and to ensure spectator safety.

Spectators and vehicles will not be allowed to stop or obstruct the public highways in the area of the harbor to view the fireworks display.

Immediately after the fireworks, vehicule access to downtown will be limited in an effort to let the crowds leave the Norwich harbor area.

The Brown Park boat launch will be closed starting at midnight on July 2 to allow crews to prepare for this event.

A rain date for the fireworks, if needed, will be Friday, July 3 and will be announced via the city’s website (www.cityofnorwich.org) and local media outlets.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
