Searchers say plane crash unlikely in East Lyme

East Lyme — A reported plane crash led to an hour-long search off the coast of Rocky Neck State Park on Tuesday without any sign of a plane.
Someone had called police at 5:45 p.m. to report a Cessna down in the water. East Lyme police joined Niantic firefighters and the U.S. Coast Guard on three different boats to search the waters between Rocky Neck State Park and Black Point.
Niantic Fire Chief John MacDonald said no evidence of a plane crash was discovered, and the credibility of the caller is questionable.
The search concluded at about 7 p.m.
