    Nine cited in Norwich for selling alcohol to minors

    Norwich — Police Wednesday evening cited nine employees from different liquor stores throughout the city for selling alcohol to minors.

    Police said they conducted 17 liquor store compliance investigation checks. They used four trained, underage decoys to buy the alcohol.

    As a result, nine people were charged with sale of liquor to a minor. They are: Cindy Sedora at Universal Discount Package Store, 680 West Main St.; Hitesh Patel at Harry's Market, 1 Bridge St.; Bhadresh Shah at H and B Package Store, 17 South Second Ave.; Kishankumar Patel at Bean Hill Spirit Shoppe, 224 West Town St.; Bhavesh Batel at PK's Discount Liquor, 647 North Main St.; Jill Giesing at Kenny P's II Wine and Spirits, 475 Hamilton Ave.; Patel Maheshrumar at Eastside Discount Liquor, 450 East Main St.; Gabriel Delacruz III at Norwich Wine and Spirits, 273 West Main St., and Christina Harper at Murphy's Wine and Spirits, 34 Sherman St.

    They were each released on a $1,000 bond pending their arraignment on July 16 at Norwich Superior Court.

    In addition to the arrests, the stores will be referred to the state Department of Consumer Protection, Division of Liquor Control, for possible license and/or permit sanctions, police said.

    Police said the following Norwich establishments refused to sell alcohol to minors: Discount Liquor World, 252 Main St.; The Square Package Store, 258 Broad St.; Gary's Wine and Spirits, 20 Norwich Ave.; Scotty's M and M Spirits, 1 Jewett City Road; Occum Package Store, 29 Taftville-Occum Road; Amazing Discount Wines and Spirits, 235 West Thames St.; Big Harry's Discount Liquors, 526 West Thames St., and Towne Liquor Store, 32 Town St.
