Trooper clocks motorcyclist driving 118 mph crossing Gold Star Bridge
New London — A Pawcatuck man was charged with reckless driving this morning after a state trooper said he clocked him driving a motorcycle at 118 miles per hour as he crossed the Gold Star Memorial Bridge from Groton to New London.
Travis R. Stokes, 30, of 41 Liberty St. was released on a $500 bond and is due in New London Superior Court on Aug. 6.
According to a news release, a trooper conducting a routine traffic patrol had completed a motor vehicle stop at 6:23 a.m. when he noticed a motorcyclist passing by at a high speed.
The trooper said he clocked the motorcyclist going 118 mph in an area where the posted speed limit is 55 mph.
The trooper pulled over Stokes at the bottom of the Exit 82 ramp and took him into custody without incident.
