Police: Shoplifting suspect drove more than 100 mph to flee from authorities

Waterford police are looking for this alleged shoplifting suspect who drove in excess of 100 mph to getaway from them Wednesday night. (Provided by Waterford Police)

Waterford — Police are looking a female suspect who they allege stole from the Target department store on Route 85 and then took off in speeds in excess of 100 mph when she saw approaching police.

Police said the larceny happened at about 8 p.m. Wednesday. When the suspect exited the store, she saw a police cruiser and began to run through the parking lot, dragging a young child by the arm.

Police said she dragged the child with such force that the child's shoes came off in the parking lot. She took off in a small, silver-colored Volkswagen with Connecticut plates.

She drove through the parking lot, into the Crystal Mall's parking lot, onto Route 85 and then onto Interstate 95 north at speeds estimated to be more than 100 mph.

Police said they did not pursue the car because it was a property crime and because there was an unsecured child in the car.

The suspect is believed to be from the New Haven/West Haven area, as a second suspect was caught and arrested at the scene.

Latreviette Daniels, 41, of New Haven was charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Police said numerous charges are pending for the suspect. Anyone that can identify her is asked to call Waterford police at (860) 442-9451.
