New London police: Remember to lock car doors, hide valuables

New London — City police are reminding residents to lock their car doors and remove or hide valuable items after receiving numerous complaints of cars being burglarized over the past two weeks in the south end of the city.

At 2:16 a.m. Saturday, an officer observed two males on bicycles rummaging through a vehicle parked on Henderson Road.

When the males saw the officer approaching, one of them, who was later identified as a 15-year-old, fled on the bicycle and was apprehended a short distance away and taken into custody.

He is being charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and interfering with police. Police did not reveal the name of the juvenile.

After what they call an extensive search of the area, police were not able to locate the second male, who they say they may have identified.

The investigation is ongoing. Residents are urged to call police at (860) 447-5269 if they see anything suspicious.
