Groton — A section of Fort Hill Road near Sutton and Poquonnock Plains parks is closed after a one-car accident toppled a utility pole about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said two women in the car were taken by ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. A third woman in the car also had minor injuries but did not go to the hospital. The accident may have been the result of the driver's medical emergency, police said.

Crews are working to remove and replace the pole. Traffic traveling east on Fort Hill Road is being detoured onto Ring Drive, and traffic attempting to turn off Route 117 onto Fort Hill Road is being rerouted, police said.
