Groton — City police charged a local man Monday in connection with a Sept. 8 stabbing.
Richard K. Sawyer IV, 33, of 128 Poquonnock Road, No. 5, was charged with first-degree assault.
Police said in a news release that they were notified in the early morning hours of Sept. 8 by staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital that they were treating the victim of a stabbing, which may have happened in the city. Hospital staff reported the victim as a 25-year-old man suffering from a puncture wound to the chest and neck resulting in a collapsed lung.
Detectives conducted an investigation, and after speaking with witnesses and the victim, a search and seizure warrant was applied for and granted for the suspect's home. As a result of the investigation, detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Sawyer.
Sawyer is being held on a court ordered $500,000 bond. He will be arraigned Tuesday at New London Superior Court.
