    New London man charged with assault on police

    New London — Police arrested a 62-year-old New London man Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted a person with a rock and later resisted arrest.

    Police say Rafael Galauskas of 353 Bayonet St. was arrested at 4:42 p.m. at 7 Bank St. Police said he was intoxicated and spit blood at officers and firefighters at the scene.

    The victim suffered minor injuries, police said.

    Galauskas was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of breach of peace, interfering with an officer, third-degree criminal mischief and intimidation based on bigotry or bias.

    Further details of the arrest were not immediately available.
