New London — Firefighters took 10 minutes to put out a fire Sunday night that damaged two floors of an unoccupied house on Parkway South.

The fire started on the first floor of the 2.5-story home at 25 Parkway South and spread to the second floor, according to New London Fire Chief Henry E. Kydd.

The house’s owners only spend summers in the house and were not there at the time of the fire, Kydd said. No injuries were reported.

Neighbors flocked to the scene to watch as New London and U.S. Naval Submarine Base firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

The rear of the house is under construction, but the fire only affected the side of the house facing the street.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office, Kydd said.
