Animals rescued from barn fire in North Stonington

North Stonington — Fire crews from multiple towns worked to put out a blaze at 235 Wyassup Road that was reported just before 4 p.m. Friday.

According to officials onsite, by 4:50 p.m. crews had mostly contained the barn fire that sent heavy smoke billowing across the sky.

North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company Fire Chief Charles Steinhart V said that the several horses housed in the 40-by-40-foot barn escaped, but the barn was a total loss.

Aside from a minor case of heat exhaustion in a firefighter, Steinhart said, there were no injuries.

The resident who lives at 235 Wyassup Road is the person who called about the fire, Steinhart said. The home wasn't affected by the fire.
