Break-ins in Lyme, Old Lyme and East Lyme prompt state, local police investigations

State police are asking for the public's assistance following several break-ins in Lyme and Old Lyme during the past week.

According to police, burglaries have occurred at residences on Blood Street, Gungy Road and Grassy Hill Road.

On Blood Street, police said Friday, the perpetrators broke in midday, taking TVs and jewelry and leaving the house a mess. Police said a white van or SUV was noticed nearby around the time of the break-in.

Police from Troop F said there also have been burglaries in East Lyme, and that they're working with Troop E to find out whether there are similarities among the crimes.

East Lyme police said there have been approximately 10 forced-entry burglaries there since September, including one on Friday. All of those burglaries have occurred in seasonal, unoccupied homes in beach communities, according to police.

Police said that although some expensive items have been stolen, the thefts haven't been "large-scale," indicating that the perpetrators don't stay in the homes for long.

State police are asking anyone with information to contact Troop F's Sgt. John Mesham by calling (860) 399-2100.
