    Stonington Police swear in three new officers

    Stonington — The police department swore in three new officers Monday morning during a ceremony in the police department community room.

    The officers are Jeffrey Hewes, Richard Souza, and Brett Cody.

    Hewes, 30, comes to the department from Alexandria, Va. where he worked as patrol officer since January of 2013. Hewes, a former Groton resident and a graduate of Fitch High School, also graduated from Springfield College.

    Souza, a current resident of Stonington and graduate of Salve Regina University, worked as a branch manager at Osterman Propane LLC in Waterford before beginning his police training. Cody, who grew up in Thomaston, worked as a bank teller at Thomaston Savings Bank after graduating from the University of Connecticut. Souza, 31, and Cody, 23, are both scheduled to begin the Police Academy on December 31, 2015.
