Lyme — The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation Police said a State Police Dive Team has recovered the body of Julius K. Thigpen of Hartford, a 50-year-old fisherman missing in Hamburg Cove.

Police said his body was found around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday near where his power boat was located the day before.

State police had first responded to the area early Monday morning after Thigpen's family reported that he did not return home. The family said he went to the cove to fish.

The Old Saybrook Fire Department found Thigpen's 12-foot power boat anchored in the cove around 6 a.m. on Monday.

Police and fire crews resumed their search for Thigpen early Tuesday morning.

State EnCon police, state police and the Lyme Fire Department conducted a land and water search of the area.

The incident is under an ongoing investigation by EnCon police. The state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, police said.
