Ledyard — A Groton man was killed Thursday in a head-on collision that occurred on Route 12 near the intersection of North Glenwoods Road.

Police said Mose Jones, 64, of 32 Joseph St., was driving a 1999 Lincoln Continental south on Route 12. Andrea Bettencourt, 52, of 134 Fort Shantok Road, Uncasville, was driving a 2006 Mazda 3 north. Police said the cars collided head-on.

The accident was reported at 5:42 p.m.

The police report did not indicate who crossed the center line of the roadway.

Jones was taken by a Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Bettencourt was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital with serious injuries, where she was later transferred to Hartford Hospital and listed Friday in stable condition.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.
