Crash seriously injures bicyclist on Colonel Ledyard Highway

Ledyard — A Friday evening car crash with a bicycle left the bicyclist seriously injured.

Clarence Pryzbyl was travelling southbound on Route 117 when he crashed into Christopher Takacs, who was riding his bicycle north in the southbound lane in the direction of Pryzbyl's vehicle.

Pryzbyl "applied hard braking but was unable to avoid striking the bicyclist," according to a news release from Lt. Kenneth R. Creutz of the Ledyard Police Department.

The weather and road conditions were not contributing factors, police said.

Sgt. Eric Bushor said Takacs was transported first to The William W. Backus Hospital, then to Hartford Hospital.

Bushor said Friday evening the injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening, but noted that that could change.

The accident, which was called in at 5:18 p.m., closed the road in the area of 915 Colonel Ledyard Highway for more than three hours.

Police said the driver of the car was not injured. The accident remains under investigation.
