Norwich — A man who police said abandoned a stolen car when it became disabled on Route 2 was charged Tuesday after officers found more than an ounce of marijuana in his possession.
Officers then discovered that 20-year-old Quinton Rosario was wanted on several warrants for violation of probation and family violence charges.
Police said Rosario of Willimantic fled the scene after a bystander approached the disabled vehicle, according to the police report.
A police dog tracked Rosario for 5 miles before locating him near the woods off Route 32 in Franklin.
Police found marijuana and charged him with illegal sale and possession of a controlled substance, interfering with an officer and third-degree larceny for the stolen car.
After running a search of his name, police discovered two warrants including a probation violation for possession of marijuana, interfering or resisting arrest and failure to appear for sixth-degree larceny.
Additional warrants from the Willimantic Police Department included two warrants for family violence charges: one for third-degree assault, third-degree unlawful restraint and breach of peace as well as another for second-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree unlawful restraint and breach of peace.
Rosario is being held on a total of $66,500 in bonds.
