Griswold — State police on Tuesday said they're searching for a man who displayed a semi-automatic handgun and a knife while attempting to rob Chucky's Mobil in Jewett City early Tuesday morning.

Troopers from Troop E in Montville and detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad are investigating the attempted armed robbery, which occurred at 3:08 a.m. at 7 Main St.

Police said the suspect is a white man who's approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and has a stocky build and blondish-brown facial hair.

He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt underneath a brown hooded sweatshirt that had a picture of a tree — possibly a Timberland logo — in the center.

He also was wearing a maroon face mask with holes in it, police said.

The man entered the store alone and attempted to rob it before leaving on foot and heading toward the Rite Aid parking lot, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Eastern District Major Crime Squad at (860) 848-6566 or text "TIP711" and the information to 236748. All calls and texts will be kept confidential.
