Police: Westerly man stole and sold firearm, then reported it as stolen

New London — Police on Wednesday arrested a Westerly man who allegedly stole and sold a firearm for drugs and then reported it as having been stolen from him last month, according to police.

Police said Patrick Marr, 28, of Westerly told police last month that a firearm had been stolen from his vehicle in the Hodges Square area.

Through an investigation, police said they learned Marr had stolen the firearm from his father in Rhode Island and sold it in New London in exchange for narcotics.

He was charged Wednesday on a warrant with criminal possession of a firearm, having weapons in a vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal sale of a pistol, second-degree false reporting of an incident and false statement.

Marr's next appearance in New London Superior Court is scheduled for June 10.
