New London police, fire officials rescue woman from Thames River

New London — Members of the police and fire departments early Thursday morning worked together to rescue a woman who'd fallen into the water behind Fred's Shanty, according to police.

Police said they responded to the area after a person called 911 at 4:26 a.m. and said a woman was screaming for help near the docks behind the restaurant.

Police later determined that the woman, who was intoxicated, had fallen into the Thames River after attempting to get off a boat at the dock.

After pulling her from the water, fire officials transported the woman to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for medical services.

Information about the woman's age and condition was not immediately available.
