Ledyard — Firefighters from Ledyard, Gales Ferry and several surrounding towns spent nearly four hours on Thursday battling a stubborn brush fire in the vicinity of 150 Whalehead Road.

The fire, which burned about a 2-acre area, was first reported about 2:30 p.m. and a portion of Whalehead Road was closed to traffic until about 6:30 p.m., when the fire crews left the scene.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
