Woman, child hurt in Pawcatuck crash

Stonington — A Pawcatuck woman and a 4-year-old girl were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after their car struck a utility pole at 2:52 p.m. on Liberty Street near Thompson Street.

Traffic was detoured away from the scene for about 45 minutes.

The driver of the car, identified by police as Blair Gilman, 31, of Brookside Lane, was trapped inside her crushed Hyundai Accent and had to be extricated by Pawcatuck firefighters.

Police described her injuries as not life-threatening, and those of the girl as minor.

According to police, the preliminary investigation shows that Gilman was driving north on Liberty Street when she crossed the center line into the path of a southbound car before striking the pole. The front of her car sustained heavy damage, police said.
