Norwich police make arrest in Monday gas station robbery

Norwich — Police on Wednesday arrested a local man they said robbed a Shell Gas Station at gunpoint on Monday and got away with hundreds of dollars in cash.

Eric S. Begin, 41, of 69 Providence St. was charged Wednesday with first-degree robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon and sixth-degree larceny.

The robbery at the station, which is located at 170 Taftville-Occum Road, took place at about 9:49 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, police learned from a clerk that a man had robbed the business at gunpoint and fled in an awaiting vehicle.

Police did not specify how much money the man took with him.

Police on Tuesday circulated a still from a surveillance video depicting the man and asked for the public's help in identifying him.

Police said Thursday they expect to make more arrests in the case.

Begin was held on a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Thursday.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the case to contact Detective Besse at (860) 886-5561, ext. 156, or to call the department’s anonymous tip line at (860) 886-5561, ext. 500.
