New London — An elderly woman was frightened but uninjured after she drove into a corner of her garage and caused it to partially collapse, according to Fire Chief Henry Kydd.

Several fire, EMS and police personnel responded to the garage at 311 Ocean Ave., where the woman crashed around 1:30 p.m.

According to Kydd, the woman drove down her driveway and accidentally hit one of the garage’s front corner posts. The car was mostly outside the garage when the garage partially collapsed.

The garage is located behind the house.

The woman refused treatment, Kydd said.

Kydd said a member of the building department was en route to inspect the structure.

Records show the home belongs to 83-year-old Leonarda Neilsen.
