Police: Flatbed pickup with missing wheel left North Stonington crash scene

North Stonington — State police are hoping the public can help them learn who was behind the wheel of a truck they said crashed head-on with another vehicle and left the scene last week.

According to police, a red 2008 Chevrolet Silverado K2500HD and a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport collided along Mystic Road about 8:25 p.m. Sept. 7.

Although both vehicles sustained heavy damage as a result of the crash, police said the person in the red Chevy drove away.

According to police, the flatbed pickup lost a wheel in the crash and left heavy gouge marks in the pavement it traversed as a result.

Police said they followed the marks in the pavement, as well as fluids leaking from the vehicle, back to 35 Wintechog Hill Road, where they found the truck without a driver inside.

The vehicle is owned by Thomas Metcalf, age unknown, of 35 Wintechog Hill Road.

Police said the Jeep driver, Kristen M. Quartella, 48, of 33 Crown Knoll Court, Apt. 68, Groton, had no apparent injuries.

To date, no one has been charged in connection with the crash.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the truck on or near Mystic Road in North Stonington around the time of last week’s crash to call them at (860) 848-6500.
