New London man charged in Stonington burglaries

Stonington — Police charged a New London man Thursday in connection with the burglaries last fall of three homes in secluded areas of town.

Benjamin Huntley, 36, of 42 Jay St., who, along with Michael Rosseau of Pawcatuck, were charged earlier this month in connection with a string of home burglaries across the region late last year, was charged Thursday with three counts of third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, third-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal mischief when he appeared in New London Superior on other charges.

Huntley is being held on $325,500 in bonds at the Bridgeport Correctional Center and is scheduled to appear in court on March 16.

According to a warrant application prepared by Detective Greg Howard, Huntley is accused of burglarizing a home on Nov. 10, 2015, on Wheeler Road, stealing $2,635 worth of computers and jewelry, and causing $2,500 in damage when he kicked in a door.

According to the warrant, he is accused of burglarizing a home on Nov.13 on Elmridge Road, stealing computers and jewelry worth more than $51,000 and causing $700 worth of damage to a door.

The third break-in was on Dec. 16 on Al Harvey Road, in which he is accused of stealing a laptop, jewelry and television valued at $1,145 and causing $50 worth of damage to a door.

Police were able to track the items to pawn shops in New Haven and Groton, where records showed that Huntley and his girlfriend sold items.

Police also interviewed Rosseau and another man who said they drove Huntley to the homes where he allegedly committed the burglaries.
