New London — Several residents were temporarily displaced Monday when a car ran into the corner of the nine- apartment building where they live around noon, Battalion Chief Keith Nichols said.

According to Nichols, the car hit the 11 Michael Road building about 12:03 p.m., causing no injuries but leaving “significant damage.”

A photo of the scene shows the impact left a hole in the lower, brick portion of the building.

Nichols said members of the building department responded to the scene, along with representatives of the building’s owner, Eagle Pointe LLC of West Hartford. They ordered the building to remain closed until the damage could be repaired. Nichols said an engineer was scheduled to arrive sometime Monday.

The building is one of many that are part of the Eagle Pointe Apartment Homes complex, most of which are bordered by parking lots.

Nichols said it appeared the collision was an accident.
