New London homicide victim died of head trauma, facial fractures

New London — Complications from blunt head trauma and facial fractures caused Marlon Beasley’s death, the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Wednesday.

The medical examiner’s office, which finished the autopsy on Tuesday, found that homicide was the manner of death.

Beasley, 38, of New London died at Yale New-Haven Hospital on Monday after his family decided to remove him from life support after a neurologist told them he had no brain activity. He had been unconscious since Thursday, when he was punched and kicked by another resident of the Williams Park Apartment Complex at 127 Hempstead St., where he lived.

The alleged attacker, Edgar “Panama” Sanchez-Valencia, was arraigned in Superior Court on Tuesday on a charge of second-degree assault. Police said witnesses and Sanchez-Valencia told them that he and Beasley had been drinking at a party, where Beasley was accompanied by a female friend. Sanchez-Valencia told police that he assaulted Beasley because Beasley had been treating his friend with disrespect.
