Norwich woman arrested after New Year’s Eve stabbing

Norwich — Police have arrested a Norwich woman who they say stabbed a 33-year-old man in his home Saturday night, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to a call to 156 Broadway at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday and found Alreno M. Sebastian with a severe stab wound to his chest in his apartment, Norwich police Sgt. Peter B. Camp said in a news release Saturday.

Emergency personnel took Sebastian to The William W. Backus Hospital, and police said he was later transferred to Hartford Hospital because of the severity of his injuries. He is listed in critical but stable condition, Camp said.

Police quickly identified Caroline A. Fragoza as a suspect. Hours later, just before 3 a.m. Sunday, police found Fragoza, 35, on Broadway and arrested her in connection with the stabbing. Police said Sebastian and Fragoza know each other but did not provide any other information about the incident.

Fragoza, who lives at 25 Broadway, Apt. 211, in Norwich, was charged with first-degree assault. She is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bail pending a court appearance scheduled for Jan. 3 in Norwich Superior Court.

Police said they don’t anticipate making any more arrests in the case.
