Downed trees, wires close roads throughout region

New London — Strong winds took down trees, poles and wires throughout the region overnight.

In New London, police said Montauk Avenue is closed in the area of Pacific Street because of downed wires.

It's unclear how long the road could remain closed.

In Ledyard, there are two wind-related closures.

Police said state Route 214 is closed between state Route 117 and Highview Terrace. An Eversource crew is on scene and the closure shouldn't last much longer.

Long Cove Road also is closed near the Groton Town line. Police said a tree is across the road there and there's not yet an estimate as to when the road will reopen.

Not long before 8 a.m., East Lyme police closed Quarry Dock Road near No. 57 because of wires on the ground.

State Route 85 was closed in Waterford early Tuesday morning because of a downed tree, along with Old Mill Road, which is closed near its intersection with Bloomingdale Road.

At 8:30 a.m., Eversource's outage map showed several hundred outages in the region. Ledyard, with 399, had the most.
