Norwich — State police early Monday arrested two Lisbon men after one of them allegedly fired a handgun toward a parked police cruiser on Interstate 395.

According to police, Joshua Richardson, 23, was driving his vehicle south near Exit 18 just before 2 a.m. when his passenger, 23-year-old Wesley Hine, allegedly shot in the direction of Trooper First Class Timothy Bettencourt’s cruiser.

Police said it’s not yet known whether the two men saw the cruiser, which was parked with its lights off.

Police said troopers later stopped and searched the vehicle, at which point they found and seized a 9mm Glock 19 handgun.

Police charged Hine with unlawful discharge of a firearm, illegally carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Richardson was charged with conspiracy to commit a class A misdemeanor and conspiracy to commit a class B misdemeanor.

Richardson was released after posting a $2,500 nonsurety bond. Hines was released on a $5,000 bond.
