Stonington police charge woman they said passed out in car

Stonington — A Ledyard woman who police say fled after she struck another car in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop and the Regal Stonington Cinemas in Pawcatuck on Monday night was found passed out in a running car in the borough two hours later.

Laurie L. Wisehart, 40, of 1855 Center Groton Road was charged with evading responsibility and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police said that about 11:10 p.m. Monday night, they responded to a report of a car that had struck a curb and another vehicle in the 91 Voluntown Road lot and left the scene.

At 1:12 a.m. Tuesday morning, police say they located the car at 5 Elihu St. with the engine running. They said Wisehart was passed out in the driver’s seat. Police said she admitted to having struck a car earlier in the evening. They said she had an odor of alcohol on her breath and she failed field sobriety tests.
