    Groton Town Police charge New York man with selling heroin

    Groton — Town police, in cooperation with a regional drug task force, on Thursday charged a New York man with having drugs packaged for sale in town.

    According to a police news release, Thomas P. Gomez, 39, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was found to have heroin packaged for sale on him in the parking lot of a local business.

    As police went to arrest him, he attempted to escape and scuffled with officers, causing an abrasion to himself and one of the officers, the release said. After he was subdued, he was treated by medical personnel and charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell and interfering or resisting arrest.

    He posted a $25,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear July 13 in the GA 10 courthouse in New London.
