Police warn residents to lock their vehicles after 11 cars entered

Groton — Town police are urging residents to lock their cars after suspects entered and rifled through 11 unlocked vehicles early Wednesday morning.

According to police, a person or people entered cars in the vicinity of Allyn and High streets between 2 and 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the perpetrators opened center consoles and glove boxes and stole items including cash and electronics.

“We strongly suggest that you not leave valuables in your cars, even if they are not in plain sight,” police said in a news release. “Leaving cars unlocked can lead to crimes of opportunity for would-be thieves.”

Police said residents should lock cars that are in garages or sheds, too, to prevent themselves from being easy targets.
