New London man arrested, charged in three towns

A New London man was charged with multiple motor vehicle infractions by three different police departments after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle while intoxicated.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, City of Groton Police Officer Lance Brown noticed a 2003 Toyota Camry weaving back and forth while traveling eastbound on Thames Street. Brown stopped the vehicle, which was being driven by Michael Foley, 21, of 73 Belden St. in New London, near Bridge and Crouch streets.

Foley pulled over, but once Brown began exiting his patrol car, Foley sped off at a high rate of speed, traveling eastbound on Bridge Street toward the Town of Groton, according to police.

At about 3 a.m., Waterford police issued an advisory that the Camry was reported stolen. The stolen vehicle was located by Stonington police, who arrested Foley. They then transported him to the Waterford Police Department to face charges. At about 4:30 a.m., Brown returned to the Waterford Police Department. There, Brown placed Foley under arrest and transported back to the City of Groton Police Department for processing.

Groton City police charged Foley with driving while his license is suspended and disobeying the signal of an officer. Stonington police charged him with driving with a suspended license and failure to drive on the right. Waterford police charged him with driving a car without the owner's permission.
