    Norwich police follow citizen tip, make drug arrest

    Norwich — A local man was arrested on a drug charge Friday after a resident alerted police on Monday about possible continuous drug activity at a downtown corner, police said.

    Jose Rodriguez, 36, of 63 Cliff St. was charged Friday with possession of narcotics in the incident. He was released on a $1,000 nonsurety bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on July 27.

    Police said Officer Kyle Besse was informed Monday by a concerned citizen of ongoing narcotics activities allegedly “occurring daily” near the intersection of Oak Street and Hobart Avenue in downtown. The citizen provided detailed information and a description of the person believed to be selling drugs.

    On Friday, Besse conducted surveillance of the area during the time when alleged drug activity was taking place. He observed what he believed to be a narcotic transaction take place. He stopped the suspected drug dealer and found that he accurately fit the description provided by the concerned citizen.

    With the assistance of Officer Avery Marsh and his narcotics detection K-9 partner Luther, police found Rodriguez allegedly in possession of heroin containing fentanyl.
