East Lyme — Police on Monday charged a 47-year-old town man in connection with a March head-on crash that resulted in minor injuries, according to Chief Michael Finkelstein.

Jeffrey S. Kutia, of 14 South Cobblers Court, Niantic, was charged on a warrant with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive right.

Finkelstein said the crash on West Main Street at Fairhaven Road happened about 10 a.m. March 13. He said Kutia crossed over the center line, striking an vehicle in the other lane head on.

Crews at the time took both drivers to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Finkelstein said police, after investigating the wreck, obtained a search warrant for medical records related to Kutia’s treatment. The records showed he allegedly had been intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Kutia, released on a $1,000 nonsurety bond, is due in New London Superior Court on Oct. 10.
