Two pulled from sinking boat off Black Point, Hatchetts Reef

Old Lyme — Two boaters are safe after their boat sank near Hatchetts Reef on Wednesday afternoon.

According to East Lyme Police Department Chief Michael Finkelstein, the call was reported about 4:11 p.m., and two East Lyme officers went out in the regional boat shared by the Waterford and East Lyme police departments to rescue them. He said the boaters were uninjured but cold.

The Niantic Fire Department and the Coast Guard were called in for support.

Goshen Fire Department's boat also was deployed but cancelled shortly before it arrived on scene, as the regional boat had picked up the two boaters. Chief Todd Patton said the water was very choppy in the area of the rescue.
