Stonington police identify suspect in Thursday's armed robbery

Stonington Police announced Friday night that they have identified the man believed responsible for an armed robbery in a home on Whewell Court late Thursday afternoon.

Capt. Todd Olson stressed that the robbery was not a random incident.

He said that Stonington detectives and officers working with Westerly police and their tactical team executed a search warrant that uncovered evidence associated with the robbery. The woman who was the victim of the robbery was not injured.

Olson said police are now obtaining an arrest warrant for the suspect. Police did not release his name. The investigation was continuing.

Olson said in a news release that “Stonington and Westerly Police working in concert was critical to the successful outcome of this investigation.”

He added that the efforts of the officers “led to a speedy resolution of a very serious crime.”

The incident occurred at 4:40 p.m. Thursday and police issued a bulletin for two men, one of whom reportedly had a handgun and wore a motorcycle helmet, who left the scene in a gold-colored Chevy Silverado pickup.
