    Fire damages Old Lyme cottage

Old Lyme - Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that damaged a cottage at 33 Sea Spray Road late Monday afternoon.

The 4:15 p.m. fire damaged the outside wall and the attic, with smoke damage confined to the living room area, said Old Lyme Fire Chief Tom Risom. No one was injured, he said. Firefighters from Westbrook, Essex, Old Saybrook and Old Lyme responded to the fire, which the next-door neighbors reported around 4 p.m.

Risom said firefighters were able to knock down the fire with very little water, about 500 gallons.

The house will be boarded up. Old Lyme Fire Marshal David Roberge said he is investigating the origin and cause of the fire and will offer Red Cross services, if needed, to the people who are renting the home.
