    Chimney fire displaces 3 residents, 3 dogs from Old Saybrook home

    Old Saybrook — Several firefighters on Christmas Eve battled a blaze surrounding the chimney of a home built in 1900, according to a news release.

    The Old Saybrook Fire Department sent 34 firefighters to the Pettipaug Avenue home around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, according to the release. On arrival, responders found flames in the walls adjacent to the chimney from the first to the third floors.

    The fire displaced three residents and three dogs from the 5,413-square-foot home. No one was injured.

    Other assisting entities included Old Saybrook Ambulance, Middlesex Hospital and the Clinton and Westbrook fire departments.

    The fire remains under investigation.
