East Lyme -- A male motorcyclist was killed late Sunday afternoon when police say he struck a car that had turned into his path on Route 1 near the Rustic Cafe.

The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. The road between North Bridebrook and Four Mile River roads remained closed as an accident reconstruction team from Waterford and East Lyme investigated until 8:30 p.m.

Police said the motorcyclist, who they did not immediately identify, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for observation.

Police said information about the motorcyclist was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
