New London — A woman was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with serious injuries after crashing her four-door Mazda hatchback into the office building at 6 Shaw's Cove on Friday afternoon, city fire and police officials said.

The crash was called in at 4:06 p.m., Battalion Chief Jeffrey Rheaume said, and it appeared the woman's car plowed into a legal services office at 6 Shaw's Cove while driving on Howard Street.

There were no other injuries, he said, as the woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no one was inside the office, which had closed for the day.

The woman's injuries were serious, according to New London police Capt. Brian Wright.

Rheaume said fire crews found her in cardiac arrest and still sitting in her car when they arrived at the scene. He could not confirm her age. A fire department ambulance transported her to the hospital for further treatment.

L+M paramedics also were on scene, as well as New London police, Rheaume said. He and Wright said police are investigating the incident.
